Minnesota to Alaska, June-July 2008

Hi all,
On Sunday, June 29, my friend Elaine and I will be setting out on a 170 vacation trip to Alaska. At the same time, my brother Bill will be heading from Oxford, OH to Fairbanks by motorcycle. I hope to meet up with him somewhere, but it's anybody's guess where or when that might be. We could even make bets about who will cross the border first!
Our itinerary is vague, because weather is such a factor on this trip. We want to visit friends in Juneau and Homer, and Richard Pulley at Hilltop. Dave Laseter has suggested an interesting circuit around the Kenai peninsula, and I'd like to do that. This will be my second Alaska Highway trip -- the first was to Anchorage from Minneapolis by J3 Cub in 2003. This time we'll be a little more comfortable!
For anyone who wants to follow our progress, I've made a Google group: http://groups.google.com/group/170s-to-Alaska. You can go there and request to join, and I'll let you in. Then you'll get emails from my SPOT satellite tracker each time we arrive somewhere, and from me, if and when I can find a wi-fi network and send an update.
Many thanks to Dave, Richard, and others who have given me great advice for this trip. I can't wait to get started!
