I have a meeting in Atlanta that ends Friday evening, but my flight out isn't until Saturday at 5:40 p.m. Any suggestions of things to do in Atlanta or is anyone interested in taking a fellow member for a scenic flight (gladly help on fuel, etc -not looking for a free ride).

Please let me know,

Paul

Hi Paul,
Sorry I can’t be there to join you as I will be out of town for the next couple of weeks but if you don’t come up with anything more exciting I have a suggestion.

There is a grass strip about 40 miles south of Atlanta Hartsfield that has a little restaurant and a restoration shop for old airplanes. The people there are nice and always willing to show a guy their latest projects. Usually a Stearman or two in the shop and they are restoring a Jenny, among other things. A lot of their projects are pre-WWII. I take my grandson there once a month or so for lunch and airplane watching. I just looked at their website and they don’t have a fly-in scheduled for that weekend but if the weather is nice you can expect ten to twenty taildraggers to come in for lunch. It's pretty laid back and there might not be anything too exciting but it sure beats eating in the food court at Atlanta Hartsfield.

There is a guy on the field who has a Stearman and a J-3 for scenic rides and training. His wife works in the restaurant so you can ask about it there. Also a guy with a Waco who offers rides but I’m not sure if he is there every weekend or just during the fly-ins.

Of course, you'll need a car (or a 170 Assn. member who wants to have lunch at the airport :) ). Sorry I won't be there that weekend but if you are back in the area again touch base with me. I'm always in the mood for an airport lunch.

It's the Peachstate Aerodrome in Williamson, GA. Their website is http://www.peachstateaero.com

Happy Flying,
Keith

Brian is a friend that's restoring the Jenny. He would be glad to show you if he is available. He works with Golden Age at Bethel, PA for some of the dialog and parts rebuild. Read his blog about the Jenny.

Just want to send a huge thanks to Dan Wood for taking the time out of his day, fighting the traffic in Atlanta, picking me up, and flyng me to breakfast. Awesome plane Dan! Now I know what it is like to fly fast in a 170 :D :D

We flew to Peachstate and had a great breakfast. This is a neat little airport and looks like it would be a fun airport to just hang around and watch the traffic.

Anyway, thanks again Dan for the ride. I will gladly return the favor to you (or anyone else for that matter)!

Paul

Hi Paul,

A visit to Peachstate and a ride in a 170! I agree, it is a neat little airport. I'm glad that worked out for you.
