All
I kind a been hanging around this site for a little while now. At first I would just read and not post anything. Just wanted to scope things out. See what all goes on good and bad. As time went on I found a lot of useful knowledge in all the past post by doing searches for several items of interest. Then I got brave enough to even ask a few questions hopeing not to sound like a complete idgit. Even though I have a 1957 C-172 it has a C-145 o-300 in it and when I looked real close someone forgot to trim the extra off my squaretail so it's a little different but aren't we all.
I have read about landing gears, tire sizes, engine heaters, overhauls, and winter kits...all or almost all relating to my aircraft. The important part is that it would not be possible with out some kind of membership dues to put this all in 1 spot.
So I sent my money in and recieved my membership packet in the mail today. I realize $45 is still alot of money where I come from but I have received ten fold that amount of info by just reading threw the past post.
So if you are serious about flying, have and o-300, round or square head.....ooppps "tail" please join a fun and sometimes intense group of people that are very dedicated and willing to help out with any of your issues.

p.s.
beware there are some people here that can spin a pretty good yarn......but they are pretty good people under all that $#%@
I'm still waiting for my decoeder ring and I gotta lean the secret hand shake but I'm gettin there.

Thanks for the kind words for the association. I have been a member since 82 and have always felt it to be one of the few bargains in this addiction known as aviation. It doesn't take much of a "tip" to far more than pay a years dues but more important is the friendships I have made over the years! I would urge you to seriously consider coming to the convention in Duluth this summer and getting some "face" time with your internet buddies.

Jeesh George, don't go and be getting soft on me now!!!!!

Anyway you're are going to have to put up with me now for awhile. I'm sure I'm going to ask some questions that you have answered many times before  but I feel there just might be some else out there that's a little more timid than I wanting to ask the same question so I'll keep asking, then we can all have a good laugh once in awhile and that's what lifes all about....laughter, flying and good friends. :P
I look forward to learning alot and a long relationship with TIC170 club and it's members.

Are you REALLY from "the other Kansas".....oh boy

Welcome aboard Willie. We are glad to have you join our great association. What you said is very true. Occasionally some folks get a bit carried away with themselves or some subject, but I can truthfully say that I have not ever met any 170 members that I didn't like. Some might be a bit crusty, honery or just a pain in the _ _ _ ,but when it gets to the heart of it, they are just good folks and that just adds to their interest value. As we all know, the internet doesn't always convey the spirit in which something is posted. I too have one of those square or straight tailed birds and a very high % of the data on the forum applies to my bird. I have accessed the resources of the membership many, many times and have received nothing but positive feedback each time. Most of the time when shopping for some item I have had suggestions that have saved me lots of $$ which helps me to be able to continue with my addiction (airplane ownership). One of these days we'll have to compare our birds. Maybe in Duluth?

This might help explain some things about me.... I was born in '48 in the Hot Springs St. Joseph Hospital. I've lived in Texas since I was three.
When Jamie and I went back to Hot Springs on a vacation, we stayed at the Arlington Hotel, and discovere the St. Joseph Hospital had moved to a new facility south of town in a big medical center. I asked about the old building, curious to see where I came through the doors in "swaddeling clothes" and I was directed to the exact building that USED to be the hospital. Jamie and I stood there at the exit-doors I'd once passed thru, out and into the world..... from what is now the.........
