Noticed that Lane Wallace mentioned C-170 member Dennis Roberts in her regular article on page 88 of the March, 2009 issue.

Dennis has an excellent restaurant here in Grass Valley, Villa Venezia. It's a favorite of my wife and I. If you're in Grass Valley you should check it out

Mike, is the restaurant within walking distance of the airport?

My sources tell me that it's a 3.6 mile walk to Villa Venezia from the Nevada County Airport. That's quite a hike! A mile or so is about as far as I'll hike my 80-lbs overweight arse for lunch.

When Lane was doing the required things to qualify to get a flight in the Lockheed U-2, the Beal AFB guys took her to Dennis's restaurant & she found out he was a C-170 owner & mentioned it in her regular article which was in the same issue as the longer article about her getting to fly in the U-2.. Your tax dollars , & hers, at work. Must be a rare situation for a civilian to get a ride in one of those.

The Villa Venezia restaurant is not within walking distance. Sometimes the folks at the Airport Office might give you a ride into town ... maybe even loan you a personal car. but otherwise you'd have to take a taxi. There is one restaurant within walking distance, the Warehouse Deli, it's maybe a 1/4 - 1/2 mile walk from the airport office.
