What's everyone doing on life insurance?
I know AOPA has something, are there other places to look or are you just hoping not to die in and airplane.....personally I hope to go out like the 2 old boys in "Second Hand Lions" :)

That's a great movie. (I like almost anything Michael Cain is in, even the ones he called his bad ones.)

There's a Pilot Insurance Company that advertises on AvWeb and I recently got a quote from them. Age 60, $500K level term guaranteed premium for 10 years was quoted at $155/mo. Age 50 is $63/mo. Age 40 is $29/mo. They claim to insure all active pilots to age 69 with no penalty, and until age 80 with addit'l premium. The underwriter is Transamerica Occidental Life Ins. Co. which is NOT RATED by AM Best.

Our financial advisor set us up with (additional) life insurance. We both had to do complete physicals which entailed having a nurse come to the house and take my blood pressure and draw a couple tubes of blood. Then the fun began. I had to fill out all kinds of stupid paperwork about the kinds of flying that I do. They wanted ratings, flight times, whether I flew for fun (yep), charter (yep), international (yep), and where (all over). Plus it seems I do a lot of other "high risk" stuff like scuba diving and mountain climbing. I was really sweating what the premium was going to be. Turned out I only pay a few bucks more per month than the wife and since I'm statistically supposed to die first anyway, that accounts for some of the difference. Funny thing is, they didn't ask how many miles I drive in my car. :?

Yes, and when filling out all those questionaires.... I'm convinced the reason they ask some of those stupid questions is in order to provide the applicant with an opportunity to make a mistake or to "fudge" so they can later deny any payout.

There's no logic to not be entirely/brutally truthful or we'll be wasting the premiums.

Harvey Watt provides insurance to all types of pilots including our group coverage at Southwest. He was recommended to me for personal coverage by one of our captains who is also a member of our world aerobatic team. You should be able to get coverage for any type of flying you may want to do.
