I think the same thing applies to most pilots, regarless of their origins. This reminds me of a review I once read on the Hundred Dollar Hamburger website. The guy was giving a favorable review of the food at Foxy's Landing at the Lancaster, CA airport, but cautioned readers that his wife had told him he'd eat a dirty shop rag and like it, as long as he could get it at an airport restaurant.

I think the secret to airport Cafes is the simple menu - good food prepared quickly and generally a chatty waitress to kill time with while waiting for your food. Reminds me of the old HWY Cafes that once populated most of the interstates in the 50s and 60s. One of my favorite memories as a kid is traveling from Texas to California on the Greyhound - all by myself. I took advantage of the freedom to order cheesburgers and lemon cokes at every stop.

Looking back on my misspent youth when I was drivingf a truck, they did not have truck stops as they do today. However, every eating joint along the highway that had a parking area big enough to accomodate parking a truck served hot roast beef sandwiches. Hamburgers were just not at all popular.
I feel like I must have eaten a thousand of those damn hot roast beef sndwiches. Have't been able to stand the damn things ever since.
P.S. As I remember---A hot roast beef sandwich, coffee, and pie--about 55 cents. Gasoline 18 cents/gal. with a 3 cent discount for over 50 gallons.
Diesel about 9 or 10 cents.
Damn Sam, I must be getting really old!

You can't be that old if you remember all those prices. I can only barely remember 15cent gas but still enjoy hot roast beef sandwiches. Hot turkey was also good.
