Is anyone or does anyone on the site know an Alaska State Trooper? I am curiose about how they persive their job, how good the perks are, ect. if so let me know. I am starting the interview process this week and would love to hear some first hand accounts over just the great rumors. (but some of the rumors are sure fun too.)

I know a bit about the Troopers
You can also check out the officer.com Alaska-specific forums
here.
Their jobs are so varied I'm not sure you can make a blanket statement about anything they do. Even their pay is very location specific. The guys in my area make a lot of money but all they do is work work work from May until September. The only thing is for sure is that once you are finished with field training you can expect to be sent to a rural post on the highway somewhere or to the bush until you get enough seniority to bid somewhere else. Of course some people joined the Troopers to work in the bush...
You would be put in Tier IV retirement, I think, which leaves much to be desired compared to a lot of law enforcement retirement systems in the lower 48. The state "reformed" its retirement system a few years ago, slowly phasing out the better, more expensive plans (higher "tiers") for lousier, cheaper ones (tier IV.)
Good opportunities for folks who are already pilots to do some flying for them
after putting in your time in field training and your first post.
