FAA Recognizes Airports in Five States

DALLAS -- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) honored airports in the five-state Southwest Region for outstanding contributions to aviation safety. The awards were announced during a regional airports conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas. The region includes Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The FAA named an Airport of the Year for each of the five states. Three other special awards focusing on aviation safety, environmental achievement and construction safety were also presented.
³We commend our recipients for standing out from among their talented peers and going the extra mile in several categories,² said Kelvin Solco, manager of FAA¹s Southwest Region Airports Division. ³We sincerely hope our recognition of their collective contributions and accomplishments will help ensure public confidence in the safety of the aviation system.²
The awards for 2009 Airport of the Year went to: East Texas Regional Airport, Longview, Texas; Shreveport Regional Airport, Shreveport, Louisiana; Lea County Regional Airport, Hobbs, New Mexico; Russellville Regional Airport, Russellville, Arkansas; Guymon Municipal Airport, Guymon, Oklahoma.
Laredo International Airport, Laredo, Texas, was selected as the recipient of the 2009 Southwest Region Airport Safety Award for consistently demonstrating a high level of safety in ensuring compliance with FAA standards and regulations.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation, Aviation Division, received the Southwest Region Environmental Achievement Award for going above and beyond the requirements of environmental regulations. The New Mexico Department of Transportation, Environmental Design Division, Cultural Resources Bureau was also recognized for outstanding support to aviation.
Shreveport Regional Airport was also the recipient of the Excellence in Construction Safety Award, which recognizes excellence in airport construction safety. Shreveport received the award for its efforts to promote and enhance safety on the airfield during the recent rehabilitation of the airport¹s main runway.

Hope things are going well for you & family. Thanks for posting the airport awards data. Personally I will be glad when East Texas Regional (Gregg County) GGG finally gets all of their construction completed. That will probably be at least a year from now, but going there occasionaly, its sometimes a challenge to figure out what is open and what is closed. Makes me have to ask for progressive taxi help.
