On Sunday it appears that we lost another great C-170A. It was on the west side of Ft. Lauderdale while trying to land on I-75 after apparantly running out of fuel. I read about it in the Monday 2-10-03 paper and was going to the same areas. By then the flat spot was cleaned up and you could tell where it was by the skid marks (cars, truck, etc) and the burned out spot.
The pilot was seriously hurt and his daughter was not seriously injured. The tail number looks like 9701A. It could have been 8701A. My old number was 9093A, for a 1949 "A". They were enroute from Clewiston, FL to North Perry, FL. The plane is a total loss.
