"Originality"

I never "scoff" at "not original" airplanes. My own airplane is not original. It has lots of mods. I like every one of them. Steve Jacobsen-originality is not what I mean by my "originality-nut " moniker.some170owners wrote:.... I just want to set the record straight. My penchant for "originality" is in relation to typical aircraft maintenance/modification solutions....not against legal modifications that serve good purposes...but in favor of "original" design purposes and appearance.
It seems that many owners seem to think it's better to "reinvent" the wheel rather than give serious consideration to the fact that Cessna had a pretty good product and got it pretty right the first time. Not everything they did was perfect, ....or even close... to all requirements or purposes of all owners. But they did a pretty good job in most aspects and I like to encourage serious consideration or re-consideration before "ad hoc", so-called "bootleg" modifications are done to these airplanes, ...then for the owner to later find out their airplane is no longer legal or as valuable as it was once.
I admit that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but severely-drooped wingtips and Fiedler-Storch landing gear on a 170 looks goofy to me, but may be right up the alley for someone else. Just don't come expecting me to know where to find replacement parts, why it handles so poorly (although we both know the answer to that one), or how to fix it without returning towards it's original design.
