Instrument Panel Upgrades

George, do you or others know if there is any instrument panel engineering data available for C-170/172 aircraft? My IA wants to do a CAD program for a possible upgrade on my instrument panel, but would like the data rather than making measurments. Just wondering.

Not sure what you mean by "engineering" data.
If you mean structural strength studies or data I don't know of any.
If you mean drawings, Cessna would likely have them available for 30-day "lease". (They are proprietary and Cessna jealously guards drawings but will "lease" them for 30 days to be returned. Last checked, they charge about $640 per drawing, per period. It's proabably less expensive for your man to simply start from scratch with his own.)

Frank, I think Harry Dickler has an STC for a panel upgrade that may work for you or may not depending on your requirements.

JIm and Frank...I was told (but have not confirmed) Harry's STC covers conversion of the control yoke "T" to a "Y" to accomodate center-mount avionics. In any case, it may be overkill to purchase an STC for a panel remake.
Starting with a clean sheet of aluminum and cutting new holes, picking up the structural attachement-points of the old panel is not rocket science.
But beware.... flight controls must remain fully operational throughout their full movement. I've seen two 170 panels that relocated instruments which were too deep to accomodate full UP elevator. The "T" would collide with the back of the instrument limiting "UP" elevator.

Frank, I have a spare, used, panel you can use for making the CAD drawings if you want. Jim
