Sun N Fun Winner Steve Jacobson

Congratulations to Steve Jacobson for his Sun N Fun Award 2010 for Best Restored Classic 101-165 HP. We spent some time talking about the restoration and I was impressed with the attention to detail and with the documentation. I thought that he deserved the Grand Champion for Classic but none was awarded.
I did receive Outstanding Classic for my 48.

Congratulations to both Steve and Dan.
I'm one, like many of us, who makes it a habit of looking at every 170 I see regardless of condition to catolog every little detail against others we have seen. There are a many very nice rat planes, far more average examples, a good sampling of extremely nice ones with fresher paint and interior and maybe fancy avionics.
Steve's plane is one that some folks without a critical eye can walk past and not notice. It can blend in as just another clean 170. But to me it stands out. There is just something about it. Maybe just a bit more shine from that aluminum that draws me in. Then I start to notice the attention to detail that just doesn't quit that you just don't see on every nice 170. Before long you realize you are looking at one hell of a nice plane. Maybe one of a kind. Perhaps as close as it can be to what it was when it left the factory. Well, maybe it didn't shine that nice from the factory.
