Its in the 100 Series Service Manual, 1962 and prior. There is also some information in your 170 POH. koop 7435

Thanks for the information. The service manual we looked at but never thought of the POH.

Kloz, if you look at the Mx Hangar section of this forum you'll find where I posted the control surface balance info, under SNL 86-44.

George:
The SNL-86-44 didn't work for my 1955 170 B. We took the weights off one aileron and weighed them at 3.25 lbs. So after priming and painting you could imagine the extra weight there. So we called the Cessna tech people. We had two good ailerons from a Cessna 172, and they are a perfect match except for the weights. I think they will fit a Cessna 150 also. The Cessna Tech rep. sent us a letter saying it was acceptable to use the 172 ailerons on the 170 B. Seems to us, me and the A&p, that the only way the weights in the SN86-44 will work or even come close, is if the aileron is unpainted. koop

So one might assume that most painted 170s don't really have a good balanced set of ailerons? because very few have probably been changed to 172 ailerons.

Since the original 170s ailerons were unpainted, makes since that the weights given would work.
