I just peed my pants laughing! I assume that no human beings or pilots were seriously harmed in the making of this film.

Here's a bit of history from this month's EAA Chapter 1000 newsletter:

"Hi Russ; This film was made as a joke. My dad and
his buddies in the Northrup film department were simply
bored and decided to make this short as comedy using
stock rocket sled accident footage. The "guy in the sand"
scenes were done at Playa Del Rey Beach near what is now
Marina Del Rey. My dad informed me that all the actors
and film crew were employees of Northrup, mostly from
the film department. At the time Northrup was upset with
them, but after the Air Force later liked the film, the heat
was off my dad and his staff. My father is still living in
Rancho Palos Verdes CA, will be 86 next week. JT.
Wyper"

I remember when, in the old days of television, one of the shows opened up with an athlete swinging a hammer to clang a gong. It was very dramatic.
That opening was a RIOT for me.

And when, in frustration, he subsequently beat the smithereens out of it, I thought I was going to cry with laughter! (It was probably something like Bruce felt like doing when that rudder-return spring snapped out of position the umpteenth time before he invented his special tooling!)
