Picked up some parts to repair the skis so I should have them on this year. Saw this video and now I really have the itch. Just hope we get good ice and snow conditions as it has been hit and miss the past couple of years.

I didn't watch the whole video, but there is a nice looking 170 taking off about 0:45 into it. I'd really like to try flying on ski's sometime.

Well, you can at least do it vicariously at

Like a lot of other worthwhile endeavors, my guess is that the real thing would trump the "vicarous experience". (As much as I enjoy the virtual company of you folks, I'd WAY rather be out flying my 170 than reading about it here.

) I'd rather just show up in Minnesota sometime during the winter, but I guess it won't be this year, as we're planning on being in Florida this Christmas vacation.

Well, you're always welcome at my house. I have my J3 on skis during winter, but not the 170. A 145HP 170 seems a little underpowered for skis; not so the Cub with 90HP.

I have to agree with that. I always pick a lake that has a groomed snowmobile trail on it just in case. I have been almost trapped by not having enough H.P. to get off a snow covered runway. After 1.5 hours of attempting to get off, the temperatures outside cooled off enough and I burned off enough fuel to get myself and my buddy up. Almost left him there so I could take off.

Wheel ski's are an option, if you have the HP. Ski's are up while waiting to keep from freezing to the snow.
