oh no Del, don't tell me you're one of those HAARP/chemtrails guys
I have flown a few research programs doing icing studies and those clouds are always an indicator of exciting times ahead for the flight. the first time I flew over the mountains in wave weather was quite an education for a prairie boy like me

HAARP is only there to track the irregular flight pattern if a plane flies into one of those clouds.

I'm curious to a fualt

. When someone post a pic and references a location, I almost always get the Rand McNally. I assumed when I read "from Tok" and "looking south at the Wrangells near Menasta", that you were driving south, and that would be the general direction.

I understand that curiosity. Even when using a map or GPS, I enjoy the track forward method to compare and "visualize" my surroundings against the map. Similar to, but different than, spatial orientation.
