How old were you when you bought your first plane?

19. That was in 1974. Bought my 170 (the first time). $4500 dollars. Dad paid half and I paid half. Sold it 22 months later in 1976 after having flown it almost 400 hours. I was in a time building mode. Bought it back 30 1/2 years later in 2006. I'll never sell this plane again.

I was 39 when I bought 58V. Was going to buy a 140 but the wife said I should buy a four place so I bought a 170. Seventeen years later I still have the same plane and the same wife. Bill K

22 back in 1977. Bought a C-140 for $4500, built about 125 hours and sold it a little over a year later. Always loved the look of the 170 but couldn't afford the "astronomical" price tag of nearly $9000!

19/1971- my first plane was a 1946 65hp BC12-D Taylorcraft with no electric system. It cost $1800, I flew it for 2 years/200hr, and never spent a penny on it except annuals.

1973- I traded the Taylorcraft plus $5000 for a freshly restored/overhauled C-170A.

1984- Bought a C-180A and sold the C-170A to a friend for 22 years.

2006- Bought the C-170A back from my friend. It needed to be restored/overhauled again.

I won't be selling it.

I bought NC63970, a Stinson L-5G, from a fellow at Weeks Field in Fairbanks Alaska, in 1948 when I was 26 years old, a Master Sergeant in the USAF stationed at Ladd AFB in the 4064th Cold Weather Testing Unit. I had a lot of fun with that airplane and I think it may still be in the registry someplace. I sold it in San Antonio, Texas, in 1952 for $900. I sure wish I still had it.

I bought a 1946 T-Craft, 65 hp, no starter, with a wind generator, lights, and a radio in 1975 when I was 24. I hired a mechanic to do an inspection and he advised me not to buy it. I ignored the advice (sound familiar) but lucked out and it flew flawlessly and inexpensively for a few years until my wife wrecked it.

It was a superb airplane in which to learn to fly.

39 In 1983 bought a '65 C-182 two weeks prior to earning my pilot license :D At the first annual I learned what George and a lot of others have consistantly preached regarding having an annual prior to purchase :( Resulted in a major overhaul

1986 purchased a '50 C-140A :D

1989 purchased Ole Pokey ( '56 C-170C/172TD) :D

Pete,
How I envy you! Under the circumstances you describe, she must be a real top winner.
