seeing a different plane like this throws an attention-grabbing curve in an otherwise straight and narrow day. Mojave must be fun to wander around and look over some of the dreams and ideas parked there.

A low-wing on floats would seem to have some problems -- like pumping out the compartments that are under the wing, limiting yourself to docks that don't have posts sticking up from them, or docking at all, for that matter. But I have to say, sometimes an airplane on floats is better than the same airplane on wheels, no matter what it is!

Living in TX these days....I see several things to be jealous of.... Water. Cool temperatures. Free time. Floatplane.

Yep! Lots of cool, clear water. Cold water, actually. Swimming in Lake Superior is serious business!

Keep rubbing it in. It's on my bucket list to take a week and hike the island. Getting there in your own plane would be icing on the cake. Looks like you had a good time. Where the bugs bad there this year?

Not bad at all, by Lake Superior standards. The park's FAQ says: "The mosquitoes and black flies typically hatch around late May and early June. They are the worst in late June and early July and usually start to die off near the end of July." I've always gone to Lake Superior in August or September, and the bugs have never been too bad then.

Those must be snow skeeters gone south for the winter, the Manitoba / Ontario skeeters put on their vests in the fall and keep on chopping.
