My uncle Ray, will be 91 this coming January, is the most incredibley talented person I know. Everything he does comes out perfect, usually on his first attempt. Was a B-25 instructor pilot in WW2. He has scratch built 2 planes, Great Lakes and a Pitts Special plus restored others. He is totally self taught, bought a lathe and started making things. thought I would show pictures of his latest projects. These motors were built from plans, not kits. The 18 cylinder 2 row engine is awesome.

yes.....but will it run on mogas?

Yes George, it's running on mogas in the picture. It will not run on 100LL The 2 row engine has a 3 blade prop he made that is 32" in diameter. He has made steam engines and a beautiful scale model of a Civil War cannon. He got a copy of the original drawings from the Smithsonian. He even made the hold down chains for it. The thing is a work of art. I could post more pictures but hurricane Irene has made a real mess around here and I have to go in to work now for the emergency. My 170 and Supercub are in my hanger high and dry and safe, thank the Lord.

You are a lucky person to be able to call him your Uncle. He is the end result of growing up in a time when it was more feasable to repair things than replace them. Beautiful craftsmanship.

Beautiful!!! Is he a member of the North American Model Engineering Society? If not, suggest it to him. I'm sure he would love to fellowship with others that build these wonderful miniatures.
