Would any of you learned 170 folks out there have the official Cessna Part Number for the subject Left Main Landing Gear Bracket. I am in the process of completing a form 337 to document the change to a PPONK bracket and need the part number of part being replaced.
Thanks a bunch for any help I can get.

Sorry that I'm not at home just now to look it up for you, but just to "needle" you a little.... (intended only in good humor of course)...
Before working on any airplane we are required to have the appropriate manuals (in the case of the 170, that would be the 100 Series Service Manual, 1962 and prior, and the Illustrated Parts Catalog for the model.)
Also, before altering the airplane in accordance with an STC, one must have the proper instructions contained in that STC, which should detail the work.
(Their website states: PPA1301-1 Bracket Left Side
PPA 1301-2 Bracket Right Side

George,

Thanks for the reply. You are so right and I do have both manuals for my airplane. However, the Service Manual reveals little about the 170 airframe. At the time I posted that inquiry, I was home filling out the 337 form (the work is completed) and the manuals were both in the hangar about 40 minutes away.
Howsomever, replacing that bracket was the absolute toughest job I have ever attempted on any aircraft. IF I had it to do again, I would probably take the aircraft to PPONK and have them do it.
THAT BRACKET could ONLY have been installed as the aircraft was being assembled around it. Plus some of the parts in the Manual do not exist today and substitutes must be identified and located.
I don't mind being needled, sometimes I do a little needling myself. Regards,

Heh-heh! I know I'VE never done anything like that.
Seriously, you are correct. The Service manual actually is only a general troubleshooting/repair guide, but the info applicable to the 172 is virtually correct for the 170 except for the little wheels.
The 170B IPC pgs 40, 41, 42 calls out the outboard brackets (Fig 21, items 47 and 56) as PN 0713495-19 left outboard, and 0713495-20 right outboard. (Those are the pn's that were superceded to the -61 and -62.)

I just installed the PPonk mod on my 54 170B. You do not replace any brackets in the landing gear. You simply attach the PPonk castings to the landing gear box angles to give extra beef up in the gear box area in case of side loading. The mod was very straight forward to install with the right jiffy drill (looks like an electric toothbrush with a very narrow neck and uses short threaded drill bits). I had the engine removed for overhaul so lifting the plane off the ground was no problem.

There is not just "one" mod by Pponk. There are several mods by P-ponk including the inboard angle mod, the outboard bracket improvement, as well as others applicable to the 170.
