Before you put it back make sure you do the first modification to make this task easy. Replace the AN bolts at the back hinge with pins so you can pull a cotter or hair pin, push the pin into the seat back and remove just that from the aircraft. Makes the job tolerable and almost easy. There are other threads about this elsewhere.

The cotter pin is a GREAT idea!
I've already learned how to replace the rear plexiglass window from the first time I removed my seat

I have it out now for new carpet and seat belts. I'm going to do this mod as well. I'll even take photos for the newsletter.
BTW, Mine tips in a 25 pounds with belts and a heavy vinyl upholstery.

I've weighed three or four C-170 rear seats and they all came out at about 33 lbs. Sounds like something is amiss.

Mine was 39 pounds. Original upholstery was still there covered with heavy boat vinyl.

Mine is 27lb with one layer of airtex fabric and vinyl. Sounds like you could use some new upholstery. You sure there's not a water pipe welded in there somewhere as a repair?

The cotter pins went in so easily, I forgot to take a photo of the process.
I got mine from the local AviationDepot.

Oh my, does this simplify installation/removal !!

Ha, Ha! I did the EXACT same thing a few years ago when I first attempted to install it by myself and before the cotter pin mod.
