I'm going to be spending some time at Mohave airport in February for work, would love to see some 170 folks that are in the area if possible. Anyone near there?

Miles is just west at Tehachapi. We had a convention there and it is a great area. You will also be near the Boron mines. Have a good trip.

I thought Miles was around there, hopefully I'll have enough time to play around, weather is always good in Mojave for flight testing so I'll probably be stuck at the airport all day  not a bad thing at all!

What will you be testing? (Miles is acquainted with the owner of the local brewer if you need a subject.) :P

Well you definitely need to look up Miles and he can perhaps show you around the airport. While your there, if you are at all interesting in modes of travel and maybe trains, you need to venture out to the Tehachapi circle. This is one of the few (maybe the only) places you can see a train circle around and pass under or over itself. There is always activity and if not wait 10 minutes.

Hi Judson,

Sorry I missed your post earlier, I've been away from the site for a couple of weeks. When do you arrive? And how long are you going to stay? If you're out wandering around KTSP, stop by Hangar 55W and I'd be happy to show you around some REAL mountains. I'll PM you my cell #.

Don't let MIles off-the-hook unless he takes you to visit the engine-shop that re-builds Merlins, Griffons, Daimler/BMWs, etc.! WOW!

(I'll never forget the internal intracacies-differences of that FW-190 Daimler-Benz engine versus the Allied powerplants. The Germans virtually guaranteed their own inability to keep up production by insisting upon the highly-sophisticated and intricately over-engineered parts of their equipment. While admirable during peace-time...the excessive labor, time, and costs of producing finely-tuned/engineered machinery which had a short life-expectancy during war was a serious oversight.
Where a rocker-shaft and plain bearing might be found installed in an Allied powerplant to operate valves....the Germans would have complex roller and needle-bearings. Much less friction in the German engine, of course....but potentially to be shot-down/destroyed within 30 days....??? Meanwhile incredible amounts of manpower and manufacturing complexities were being expended on those kinds of mis-directed efforts. It was a great history lesson. (One we are perhaps forgetting with F22's and F35's in a new-age of drones.) :|

Must be the Holiday Inn Express. Look to the left as you exit the freeway and you should be able to see whether or not I'm at the airport.
