Forum Items

Occasionally I open this site and see that there are numerous new posts from members on the forum, but for one reason or another I don't have time to open each one at that time. When I do get time to return to the forum and open the first post, I find that all of the other posts have gone away. What should I be doing not to lose those posts that I have not had a chance to read?

Bruce can probably chime in with the fancy picture snapshots and red arrows but here's what I think may fix your problem Frank. Login with user name and password (far right side) > User Control Panel (under "Board index" far left side) > Board preferences tab > Edit display options tab > Display posts from previous days: > select "all posts" from drop down menu.

Thanks Gary! I have made the changes and we shall see if that corrects my issue. :D

Not sure Gary's suggestion will work. These setting should probably have already been set for you.

Here is a fancy picture with red arrows so I don't disappoint Gary.

What is happening Frank is that you are opening the forum in your browser by using a bookmark I'll bet. When you set that bookmark you happened to have previously selected the option to View new posts which is above the third arrow from the left. Now when you click that bookmark it goes and finds new posts but only new posts since your last visit. This BTW is the way I prefer to view the forum.

The problem with this method is as you noted, if you can't read all the new posts and come back later clicking on your bookmark looking for the posts you didn't read, they don't show up because they are not new. You saw them last time.

Personally when this happens to me I just leave that page open with the list until I come back. I then read the posts but return with the back button to the old page with the lists.

Another method to find those posts that you didn't read but that are no longer new to you is to select the View unread posts option that is above the red arrow second to the left. This would work well for me as I've read every post on this forum except of course for the few I'd just missed. If you haven't read every post then your list of unread posts could be pretty long. Good thing the latest unread posts will be at the top. Just chose the posts by date that you recently missed.

Another method is to look at the Board Index and see which forum icons are in RED. Those are the ones containing unread posts. Click on that forum and then note which individual thread/subjects are listed in RED. Those are discussions in which msgs have been posted that you have not read.
