Re: New member old plane
My story with the Cessna 170 is a little strange .
I got my first Glider license in 1981 in Italy were I'm originally from. I owned a Cessna Reims 172 210 HP and i towed glider with him.I also owned a GROB 109 motor-glider ,a very interesting taildragger . I bough it from my local aeroclub because was to hard to fly for the members...
I moved here to Florida in 1997 and stopped flying ,too busy learning English , and make a living . Last year i went to the Sun n Fly and i saw a polished Cessna 140 . I was so impressed by the beauty of the plane that I was probably drooling .
I tried to convert my Italian licenses ,but was too long that i wasn't fly so i started from scratch,FAA considered my time and in 30 days i pass my check ride.
Reading the C 140 specs I realized that it can really carry too much so i moved to the 170 and i saw ghorn plane. My American pilots friends tried to convince me to by a performance plane ,but i really want a vintage taildragger. In November I bought N3095A the price was reasonable the paint i didn't care . I love the final result is almost nice as the ghorn plane one day i will park mine side by side .

Giorgio, I really have to hand it to you. Fifteen years here in the USA and you've learned English, earned a living, and have, among other things, become owner and pilot of a classic airplane. It sure is miles beyond our average immigrants accomplishments. I only wish you continued success in your endeavors. Would that we had more of the same.

I'm hoping that if we're parked side by side he'll polish mine up in a case of mistaken identity!Bruce Fenstermacher wrote:Oh boy George, you better get polishing.

Re: New member old plane
N3095A looks magnificent!! I was a co owner of her with my brother in the late 70's, and 80's till we had to sell her. Good to see she's with a great family. That pic you found may have been ours. The paint colors were Sky Blue and White when we owned her. Best trip was a 1981 cross country flight when we wintered in Fla. near Ft. Lauderdale and were headed back to NY in Jan. 81. During this sgl xcountry flight we stopped in to Merrit Island A/P and caught the 2nd Shuttle flight blast off, flew up to DC and watched the Reagan inaugural and on to Stewart Int'l in Newburgh, NY to witness the Iran Hostages land on the newly extended super slab at Stewart. We had a private 1800' grass strip 4 miles north of Stewart. What great memories we had with N3095A. Lots of luck and happy flying! Steve Estis

If the field north of Stewart is Old Orchard, now 2800 ft, it is one of the nicest places with some great people based there. Had the pleasure of stopping
in there a few times in the last couple of years and it is like stepping back in time and it has a great impromptu museum on the field also.

Re: New member old plane
Giorgio,
Beautiful airplane
I see you were originally a glider pilot as Former owner of
Cessna Reims 172 210 hp
Grob 109 Motor-glider
Blanik L23 Glider AS
I also started out in gliders. I learned to fly in a Grob 103 II Acro, Did spin training in a Blanic L-13. First owned a Schleicher Ka6 CR. then a Schleicher ASK 14 Motor glider and finally a Glasflugal Kestral 17. Rebuilt a ground looped Blanic L-13 which I did many cross country flights in. I got my Cessna 1950 170A off E-bay and rebuilt it from a ground looped accident. It is also Polished. I may have to try Georges method of maintaining the polish.
I wished you lived closer so we could exchange stories about Soaring. I am clear across the country from Florida in Seattle Wa. Welcome to the 170 Association. It is the first Forum I read every day after reading the news.
Warm Regards,
Jim
