Engine Overhaul

Post by bella »

All:
At 370 hours on a c145 engine we are having to do a complete overhaul. The symptoms were temps climbing temps into the low 220s, falling oil pressure, and aluminum in the oil sample and oil filter after only .7 hours engine run, i.e. within 10 minutes of engine start and one trip around the pattern, following a routine oil change. The engine was borescoped and concerns were found with internal components.

The engine is being removed for a complete overhaul and we are working with a mechanic who specializes in these c-245 and c-300 engines. I am responsible for securing needed parts. The first item I know we need is the Push Rod Conversion Kit. If there is a source of quality parts please share. Thank you.

I just got done procuring all the parts to overhaul a C-145. Assembly will begin soon.

When you say "Pushrod Conversion Kit", if you mean the pushrod tube conversion then you are looking for the Real Gasket Pushrod Tube kits. I purchased mine from Aircraft Spruce. I've worked with these in the past, I highly recommend that you get the Real Gasket spring compression tool. You will also need a tube of Permatex Ultra Copper #101 RTV silicone (I purchased from Amazon).

I saved a few bucks by buying a used Briggs & Stratton No. 19063 valve spring compressor online.

bella…WELCOME !

As for the pushrod conversion…. the REAL Gaskets line already provided is where you’d need to source those… BUT..if you are replacing cylinders…be aware that SOME new cylinders can be ordered with the conversion already-accomplished.

Hope this helps.

When you order those cylinders that are made for the CONTINENTAL spring loaded pushrod tubes, your price will be about $700 more per cylinder than if you bought cylinders with the swagged pushrod tubes. At least it was about a year and a half ago.

I would do some checking, but I would not count on the Real Gasket pushrod tubes and Continental spring loaded pushrod tubes being interchangeable. So if yo buy Continental cylinders for spring loaded pushrod tubes you probably also want to buy Continental spring loaded pushrod tub parts.
CAUTION - My forum posts may be worth what you paid for them!
