Aviation Safety January 2005 Article About 170's
The latest issue of Aviation Safety has an article about flying taildraggers titled "Fying A Swivel Chair". In one of the sidebars they compare accident numbers with the 170 and the 172. They come up with numbers that they admit are only an estimate that show a 3 times higher accident rate for loss of control on landing/takeoff in the comparison of the two airplanes. It's a good article for beginning taildragger pilots to read, and interesting reading for the rest of us. The pretty 170 they used in the picture is N4533C.
