When I bought my 53 170B it came with a box of spare parts, some 170 part and other cessna parts and a few old ford parts. There is a new upper and lower nose cowl. Of course they are not 170's "I think". Can anyone tell me what they are from and if they would fit a 53 170B. I ahd one person tell me they were early 172 parts that will fit and one other said they won't fit. I have seen a few 180hp 170's with very similar nose cowls. The part numbers are: Top 0552002-76 and Bottom 0595000-10. I'd insert an image but can't figure it out!
Thanks, Paul

They are old Ford parts and they are not '53 170 parts. Put them in a box and ship them to me, freight collect.
Seriously, you should contact Cessna and ask them, but those dash-numbers are not for a 170.
The 53 B-model numbers are 0595000-6 (supercedes 0552002-51) and 0595000-3, both of which are still available from Cessna for your first-born male child.

I've been drilling rivets out of the really skanky patches on my cowl this afternoon and if my first born male child, who should be able to put Dr. in front of his name doesn't get on the stick and get out of college soon I may pursue that deal!!!

Boy these AGGIE Dads can get tough on their first born's can't they! Wonder if Paul's Dad ever thought the same thing? (GRIN)
I have to say grin because I can't figure out how to use the smiley faces & my AGGIE son-in-law hasn't had time to show his computer challenged father-in-law how to do so.
See ya next week Paul.

I have a '53 B with what my mechanic swears is a 1959 172 nosebowl. I personally prefer the look which is more like that of a 180 . I'd post a picture but I can't figure it out either but I would be happy to email you a picture so you could see what mine looks like.

Ya, Pete send me an email with a pic of your front cowl i'll send you one of the cowl I have.
As far as the rest of you, I was the second son so pretty safe. Any way if the old man had traded us away he would of had to pack a lot of moose, cut fire wood, and build a house by him self. Of course had he not had all us kids he wouldn't need the big house and all that wood and meat.
If these cowl won't fit hopefully I can sell'em or trade'em for the right ones. Looking at the prices of the new ones, might have to start working on that first son!!!
Thanks, Paul

I looked around the web for some Cessna part places that have online search AND give a description of the part found.
Can't remember which one did give descriptions but when your part numbers are entered it says they both fit a 152, 172, 182 and a 200. Never heard of a 200 and I can't believe a cowl nose bowl would fit both a 152 and a 182. So it my be bogus information.

Re: Nose Cowl??
The part numbers you have are listed in the Cessna 172 & 175 1956 –1962 on figure 55 (Engine Cowl Assembly) the 0552002-76 is Item # 6 Nose cap assembly upper cowl for 172 serial number 2800 through 36965. The 0595000-10 is listed in the same catalogue as Item number 30 Nose cap assembly-lower cowl for the same serial number range of 172.N419A wrote:When I bought my 53 170B it came with a box of spare parts, some 170 part and other cessna parts and a few old ford parts.
