REPAINT/REBUILD ADVICE

"Stainless"....ain't really. So-called stainless steel is actually a high-cromium content steel...which is slower to rust than plain steels. But they will still slowly corrode.
And if they are screwed into another type fastener...like plain steel... or aluminum...etc....then that other fastener will corrode even faster than it does normally due to electrolysis of dissimilar materials.
So,...screw a SS machine screw into a plain steel riv-nut and wash the plane or let it sit out in the rain a few days and you'll likely end up with a SS screw that doesn't remove as easily as you might have expected. Using an electric screwdriver may strip out the head of the screw and now it's really stuck!
For that reason, SS fasteners aren't always the best for structural fasterners like machine screws/bolts/etc. Sometimes it's best to stick with the originally specified fastener. (And if you do use a SS or Inconel fastener in a structural application, then make certain it is a bona fide structural fastener, (not just one out of the cheap stainless steel cowling/fairing kits) and so marked.)

I'm going to talk to the painter about re-painting the stripes!
I keep opening the pictures, hoping it will change a little.
And it is getting a little better.
If ever I have a plane painted again, I will be there to help lay out the stripes.
Bruce if I sent you a pic, could you post one for very temporary?
My Spirits have just been lifted! I just got a personal email from Mr John D and Dorothy Benham. How many of you can say that? Got to send him a map to Petit Jean!
