Instrument panel tilt??? QUESTION

Post by 4stripes »

Is the instrument panel on the 170B considered to be "zero" tilt for the purpose of installing gyro's?
I think it is but can't find any reference that confirms this.
Thanks Eric

Zero tilt

Post by 4stripes »

By Zero tilt, I mean it is a perfectly vertical instrument panel. Some gyro's come built for a specific panel tilt (ie. 8 degree panel tilt).
Does anybody know what the 170 panel is considered?
Thanks Eric
I realize gyro's are for decorative purposes in a 170...

On my ragwing in level flight the panel definitely is not vertical It is closer to vertical when in the three point position on the ground. If you could get a digital read out level you could confirm for your own peace of mind. The other question I still have is it a requirement to have the tilted gyro if you have a tilted panel. seems like it would only be a problem in an extreme nose down attitude. Bill K

decoration

It says on your profile you are a pilot, how can you say that gyros in a C170 are just for decoration?! :o I only have one stripe, but I still use my gyros all the time, and consider them quite useful. Jon

Hi Jon s...
My comment was tongue in cheek.
But seriously folks does anybody know what type of replacement gyro's should be considered?
My panel does not appear vertical in flight either 3958v.

4stripes, Glad you cleared that up, I can't read expressions on the web and I was surprised someone would make that statement. I just put a new panel in my 53 model, and just used standard gyros. I think you will find that most of the gyros in 170s are standard and not the 8% type. My appologies. Jon
