Owner Produced Parts

Post by 170C »

Where are you George? Haven't seen your comments, etc. lately. George, would you or other experienced folks give me some input on this subject? It my understanding an owner can make/produce a part for his/her plane, install it and after the appropriate paperwork be legal. What constitues a part? Is it a rib, bracket, stringer, bulkhead, step, etc.? I would assume one cannot produce a component such as a motor or engine or anything else that is complex. If one produces such a part and installs it, does an AI have to sign it off and does it require a 337? Just curious what falls within this area.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)
