I think different series' got consecutive numbers;
mine is a '48 ragwing, 3949V and there are members with '48 models with numbers like 3956V, etc. My guess is Cessna just reserved a consecutive bunch of numbers and slapped 'em on as the planes rolled off the line.

Richard, she's a beauty. (Of course, aren't they all). Congrats on a nice airplane. The pain in the wallet is somewhat cured by the therapeutic process of flying it.
It looks like you have the Benham or Bartone exhaust on there as well and the '53 (my favorite) cowling with two doors, is that correct?

Arrgh. Well, we'll pray for good weather next weekend too.

Not sure about the cowl, that is the first 55 model I've seen, but according to the parts manual 55 models shipped with the same two-door cowl as the 53.
It has the Franklin 165 horse engine, and all the Franklins I've seen send the exhaust through the rear like the Bartone.
I've sent away for the CD, since the paperwork is still with the plane, and I won't get ahold of it for a while. I have a lot of questions myself that could be answered by poring over the various 337s. It's going straight over to Tom Downey for an annual, and some other work, before I pick it up next month.

Oh, and it has VG's, so I look forward to participating in that argument on a regular basis, once I've flown it enough to know what I'm talking about. When is that, by the way?

You are correct, just noticed that they did not eliminate the second door until SN 26996. I sure wish Cessna had routed the Continental exhaust out the back.

If everything goes as planned, the week before Memorial Day. I'm taking two weeks vacation to go down, get my insurance check out and then fly it home with a commercial pilot buddy of mine via the highway route. Can't wait!
