My son and I went fly-in fishing today. We had to share a spot with the bears. We ended up with four reds, the bears didn't get any.

You're right Bill, he was very happy. I have 26" Goodyear Tundra Tires.

DARN!!!! MAKES ME JEALOUS AS HECK. I WAS JUST UP IN AK IN JULY BUT DIDN' GET TO CONTACT ANYBODY THAT COULD SHOW US THAT KIND OF WONDERFUL ACCESS. WE RENTED ADODGE 4X4 P/U BUT SAW VERY FEW STREAMS THAT WOULD HAVE GIVEN US ACCESS LIKE THAT. DEANA CAUGHT A COUPLE OF LITTLE GRAYLING IN A LITTLE CLEAR STREAM ALONG THE OLD DENALI ROAD. WE DROVE THE LOOP FROM ANC TO DENALI THEN ACROSS THE OLD DENALI ROAD TO PAXON. TRIED TO DRIVE UP TO THE McCLAREN GLACIER BUT THE ROAD ACROSS THE RIVER WAS WASHED OUT. SAW A COUPLE OF MOOSE OUT IN THE TUNDRA PONDS AND ALMOST COLLIDED WITH A COUPLE OF GRIZ - ABOUT THE SIZE OF THOSE IN YOUR PHOTO - BETWEEN PAXON AND GLEN ALLEN!

WE CAME UPON A CITABRIA PARKED IN A LITTLE PULL-OUT ALONG SIDE THE ROAD. HAD HIS TENT SET UP THERE AND WAS SOMEWHERE OUT ON THE STREAM THAT CROSSED THE ROAD. MAN THAT WAS SO NEAT.

I HAVE A PHOTO I TOOK AT MERRIL FIELD OF A 180 WITH THOSE HUGE TIRES -- SOOO COOOOL. LOTS OF 170s THERE TOO. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

DURING THE KELOWNA CONVENTION, I VISITED WITH HAL LOGSDON (YELLOW KNIFE) AND HE GOT ME REALLY CHARGED UP TO GET UP THERE AND GO FISHING WITH HIM - MAYBE NEXT YEAR - ???

WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO WITH THAT BEAVER??

I'm not sure what they'll do with that Beaver. When I took that picture I could see someone working on the engine (or stealing parts??). I suppose one option is to wait for snow, pack a trail and fly it out.

I live in Soldotna. Right in the middle of the Kenai Peninsula. There is so much to see and do here now that I have a plane that I don't think I could do it all in a lifetime. And now that I have a plane I'm making new friends (go figure) and through them I'm getting more contacts on remote cabins for use. Those cabins are opening up hundreds of more options. Today I flew to Summit Lake Lodge for lunch. My plane made the back drop for several tourists to pose in front of. From there I landed on Trout Lake and the wind was blowing hard enough for trolling speed. So I cast out a Vibrex spinner and picked up a little lake trout. Here's a picture from Summit Lake:

Wow!! It does look like a Blast! I bet your son really loves it too!!! How old is he?? I have Two, We live in Al... ,PLR, an drive a 54 170B...
Can you give me info on the Goodyears???

He's 10 now, 11 next month. I saw your question on the Goodyears and I'm researching now. Looks like mine were done with a 337 in '99 and it's in the file the FAA sent me on request. I'm converting the 337 to a PDF file now and I'll send it to you.

I just got back from another fun adventure. A friend and I went on a 4 day moose hunting trip. A good thing was that we were only 27 miles from town. My friend asked me how much stuff could we bring and I told him it didn't matter since more stuff just meant more flights which was okay by me. The bad news was that we didn't see any legal moose even though we were more than 10 miles from the nearest road.

Here's a picture of the cabin we rented from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for $45 per night (Snag Lake cabin in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge):
