Fly-in Friday College Station?

Post by AR Dave »

I have to fly down and pay Aggieland Auto Sales, in full, within 7 days. Decided to check out *, for the first time, last fri.. Get in from Alaska, Wed.. Looks like Traci / I will fly a line through Texarkana, Palestine, to College Station. Any advice about College Station Airport or area?

Dave, I would recommend flying in to CFD (Coulter Field, CFD) if for only the reason that it is uncontrolled and the gas is usually cheaper. Besides I believe that they are starting maintenance on the main runway at Easterwood (CLL). Let me know when you are coming in, I might be able to pick you up and give you a ride, lunch, etc. I have classes all day on Tues and Thurs though. I will pm you.

Thanks Dave. We have some friends in Georgetown also, just might pop over there while waiting on Traci to make her way back north.

This Ebay thing is neat - we should form a coop car business. Find low priced cars around the country at a 170 member near you. If I use the plane to pick up cars, we should be able to write the plane off - right?

:D :D Hey Dave, hope you and Traci can drop in and see us in Georgetown. Lolly and I are currently in New Haven, CT. Will be back in KGTU on Thursday Nov. 30. Give us a call and we can pick you up at the airport. Even have a spare bedroom if you need a place to layover. 8) My cell phone is 512-635-1168

Which Airport @ Bryan/College Station

Post by 170C »

I will second the suggestion David did on Coulter Field. They are a nice bunch of folks, helpful, nice facilities and a 170 type airport, besides a friend of mine is an owner of the FBO. Not that Easterwood isn't friendly, I have stopped in there numerous times when my daughter & son-in-law lived in CS while he was becoming an Aggie  They lived close to the airport so it was more convenient than Coulter.

I meant coop (COOP), you know, like where we go to get the cheap diesel and weed killer. I bought a 2005 Honda Civic, which is forsale, if someone wants to save us the trip. This just might be a way for Traci and I to finance flying around the states visiting friends.

Coulter Field is where I'm heading. You know I prefer uncontrolled airspace the best. Thanks for the invites, I'm looking forward to this!

Dave, I was wondering... I thought you might have bought a Mini Cooper. :)
If you and traci need a place to stay (if you don't go to Georgetown) you can stay here... we have plenty of room. You guys can give us some good Alaska stories!

Has a hole opened up down there yet? Been raining cats and dogs here! Going to be like Alaska here tonight, ice and snow. Even though it's not supposed to drop below 26 degs, I'm still going to use my coleman preheater just because I havn't gotten to use it in so long. I love it!

Dave
Weather in North Texas has been really nasty today...rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Not much accumulation but enough to make the roads dangerous. Supposed to be sunny tomorrow and temps above freezing after 10:00 am.

Dave,

Georgetown will be 28 tonight and clear. 8O But the good news is tomorrow (Friday) it should get up to 60 and clear :D Bring it on for your trip to College Station/Bryan, but suggest you also bring the airplane heater for early morning or over night heating.

Good luck on the "new" coop

This is looking more and more like a business trip. I have a feeling we will fly straight to Bryant and then drive straight back as far as Traci feels like driving. Have relatives in Palestine and Texarkana. Been trying to call them but they have caller I.D. so they're not picking up. There is also a mother daughter discussion about shopping and some other non-sense going on in my house.

OK - I'm here! Really enjoyed visiting with Dacker today. Traci and I parted ways and I'll see whoever at Granbury in the morning!

LOUISIANA AINT TOO FAR

Post by flyguy »

You aren't too far off course if you swing by here on your way back. I'll put "RIBS" in the smoker in a few minutes just in case. I think "BUDDY McGOWN" would vouch for taking a short detour to give yourself a chance to sample my "smoked ribs".

If you can't come I'll just have to eat em all myself

P.S. I sent you an e-mail in case you could get messages while on the road.

Well you might not believe this but I was trying to decide weather to fly east (to GAR strip) or west to Georgetown, when Ole Joe Harris called on the cell phone. He's very convincing. I'm having a hard time leaving this lovely place this morning but I'm about out the door. 170 people are wonderful! Really wonderful!
