1956 Cessna 172 value , a little help from the experts.
I know this is a C170 message forum but I would like a little help here to those that have an idea. I have a 1956 Cessna 172 that I accuired (unfortunately). It has like 2200 TT a fresh overhaul (new ECI cylinders, carb has been rebuilt etc, jasco alternator, overhauled prop, new exhaust, rebuilt nose wheel, new tires and brakes all around, new glass, new interior, new fuel tanks, new interior, fuel totalizer, engine analyzer, ECI electric engine gauges, all the instruments were overhauled, rebuilt fuel selector/primer, new seat tracks. Cheapy valcom, cheapy narco. The interior/panel will be nice, and the rest of the airplane in good shape. The only thing it needs is paint. Does anybody on here have an idea what this aircraft would be worth? This was the 26th Cessna 172 out of the factory.

Hard to pin down without looking at the airframe and knowing the quality of the overhaul, but I'd say somewhere in the 32-36K range. Would be worth more to me if it had 300-400 hours on the engine. I'm assuming complete and accurate logs with no major damage history.

a very basic Bluebook look with 2200TT and 50SMOH but needing paint gives a retail value of $32K. that doesn't take into account any of the other improvements.
it has plenty of other stuff going for it which would add to the price, sounds like a nice plane on paper. nicer than mine, anyway
values are entirely subjective of course, a well-cared for plane with good records and answers for every question are the ones that bring top dollar.

hello i also have a 1956 172 serial number 29088 it has 2020 total time with no damage history. do you happen to know what number it came off the assebly line? thanks rob lomis kalamazoo mi.

Rob, your original logbooks and equipment lists will show the original registration/tail number, if that his what you are wanting.

Not sure why you say "unfortunately" about your 172. 172's are great planes...mine is my go to plane most of the time. I have a 1960 model that I have had for almost 20 years. I keep thinking of selling it but soon realize I would never be able to replace it for what I can sell it for. They will do most anything a plane is required to do and still be affordable.
The previously quoted price in the $30K range sounds about right but I will say 99% of plane buyers seem to go by looks alone and a paint job will help considerably in selling it.

I think I will stick to about 35k it has alot of goodies and a fresh engine and being one of the first 172s. #26, thats pretty cool I think. Unfortunately was'nt really the right word, I love the aircraft not as much as the 170 but the 172 makes me feel all cushy inside when I do greasers. The way I "fully" aquired it is because my dad (the co-owner) died back in august. I can't support two airplanes and barely have time to fly the 170 let alone the 172. (which I don't like to fly as much) The 170 could use about 11k or so of work so I take the money from the 172 and put it in the 170, so I'll have a pretty airplane and one I want to keep.
