Here is something that should be considered when selling an early C-172.
It is reported that some of the very early C-172s still had the forward gear box as used in the C-170 since they apparently came off of the same assembly line. If that happened to be the case, the airplane would be VERY desireable for conversion to a conventional landing gear configuration. I would guess it would be worth at least $5K to a converter considering parts and labor to install a gear box.
Unfortunately, attrition is eating away at the supply of Cessna airplanes with a conventional landing gear, and there is always a small demand for that configuration. The demand is not enough for a manufacturer to put them into production, so the only supply is the conversion of early models of the C-172, C-175 , and C-182. Bush planes and ski planes will probably be with us for a long time.
1956 Cessna 172 value , a little help from the experts.
