O-470 style cyl's

Post by bradbrady »

I believe the only difference in the new style(read "O-470") cylinders is the sealing of the push rod housings. They are sealed in the manner of the o-470 CYLINDERS. No need to reswage the upper ends or pull the cylinder to replace the bell seal on the lower end in the event of an oil leak.

Thanks BL,
That was my take on them as well. I was wondering about the (Opera Glasses) attachment on the case. And how if any that is changed. What the differance in cost over the normal cyls is? and has anyone seen or rebuilt an engine using the new style cyls? I think this is a good way to go with a good old engine. Depending on cost!!! Thanks.

TCM offers a kit (don't have the number in front of me) that retrofits the old style PR tubes to the new style, for about $75/cylinder last time I looked. They say it is a bolt-on mod, no machine work or cylinder removal required. Real Gaskets also offers a similar if not identical kit.

I installed the kit from real gaskets on my c85 in my cessna 140 when i overhaued the engine seems to work just fine. was getting tired of seeping push rod tubes now if they leak i don't ave to pull cylinders, although they better not leak for a while...... the stc was per a cylinder and you can change to the stc one cylinder at a time...

Tunraflyer,

I installed the Real gaskets push rod tube kit on my Champ C-85 and the 170. I am very happy with the kit.

Robert,
Thanks for your input. The presure switch for the well went belly-up last night after wrighting. So I spent the day playing plumer (old farm house= full day fixing a simple problem) So still haven't checked into Real, but sounds like a everyone likes them.
