Update to FAR 91

Post by GAHorn »

From the Flight Crew version of FAR 91/AIM comes an update:
Effective Date: October 2, 2006

Part 91: This final rule amends FAA regulations to ensure that new aircraft manufactured in the United
States and issued a standard airworthiness certificate are type certificated and manufactured under an
FAA production approval. These changes also ensure that any person who manufactures or alters an
aircraft, aircraft engine, or propeller based on a type certificate or supplemental type certificate (STC)
either holds the certificate or has permission from the certificate holder.

(In other words, if you don't have the paperwork for your STC modified airplane in-hand and with the STC holder's permision, you are illegal.)
'53 B-model N146YS SN:25713
50th Anniversary of Flight Model. Winner-Best Original 170B, 100th Anniversary of Flight Convention.
An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

I just heard of someone who's 337 was bounced back by the FAA because he did not include a letter of permission with it. It was for installation of Hooker harnesses. Apparently the letter from the STC holder has to have your N-number on it. Lot's of things (Teflon yoke bushings for example) are available with a generic STC and you can order them from retailers like Chief. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
