2500 vs 3000 straight skis ?

I'm looking at getting a pair of straight ski's for my C170B. Any experience/recommendation/comments on going with either the 2500 or 3000 airglas ski's?

I have been happy with 2500 landes skis for 20 years. I would like to buy a brand new pair.

I have Federal 2500's with teflon bottoms and I like them.

I,ve flown both 2500 and 3000 Landes skis on different 170B aircraft. If you have the continental 0300 I would suggest the 2500. If you have the 180hp LYC the 3000 works just fine. Also depends on type of operation you intend to use them in. Flying off packed lakes and landing areas again the 2500 are OK. Out in the deep fluff the 3000's will work better. Also had a set of AERO 3000's on a 145hp 170B which I think is a great ski for the 170. Strongly suggest you go to the steel axles and Atlee springs instead of bungee. Atlee has the fuselage fittings. If I can help let me know.

Does any one have experience with fixed penetration skis on a stock 170? Are fixed penetration skis legally available for a 170?

I have the 160hp LYC. Initially I will stick to packed lakes but it would be fun to land on some glaciers after I get comfortable. Gary, would you land your C170 on 2500 skis on the Ruth glacier? Are there any differences in ground handling between the 2500 and the 3000?

I already have the steel axles and fuselage fittings. (installed by the previous owner) When I made up my mind on the skies I will get with Atlee for the springs. Thanks for the tip Gary.

I investigated the penetration skies and found out that a pair of Airglas LW2500 skis were installed on a C170B down in the L48. I have some pictures that show the set up and it looks great. When I talked to the mechanic however he could not and would not sell me the modified brackets and/or form 337. I have not found any other penetrations skis installed on a C170

I put on a set of Schneider Wheel penetration skis this winter. On hard packed snow they worked great. But then again my buddy flying his Bird Dog without Skis did not have any problems either :) . Deeper snow was a whole different experience. However, I did have the wheels set for maximum penetration as I take off and land on a paved runway. Next year I will try setting them shallower and maybe have less drag with the wheels. Snow is melting fast and the lakes have a lot of water and slush on them so I think I am pulling the skis off this weekend :(

I pulled mine off last wed while I still had enough snow to land at RNH.
I had it on our lake for 2 months. Straight skis.

If I lived on a lake I think I would also have straight skis - I think they would perform a lot better! But regardless, Ski flying is still a lot of fun - especially "racing" snowmobiles. Funny when you take off or land how they want to race!

Do you have more stats on your skis?

What size are they or what weight plane are they rated for?

What size tires do you use with your skis?

What do the skis weigh?

Did they come with an stc?
