I'm thinking about upgrading to a climb prop and am hoping to get some feedback from folks who have used the McCauley 8043. There was quite a bit of information on climb props at the old site, but I couldn't find anything specific to my questions so here goes. My current prop was originally a 7653 which got cut an inch shorter 10 years ago and repitched to 51, so now I have a 7551. I only get about 2200 RPM on the takeoff roll which seems low - but I suspect my tach is a bit off (about 100 RPM too low).
I would like to get some more horsepower on takeoff - I live in Alaska and want to start getting into, and more importantly, out of shorter strips Shortest I have been into so far is 1000 ft gravel. I'm wonderring what to expect for RPM on the takeoff roll with the 8043, and what I might get for cruise. I get 100 kts cruise at 2300 RPM with the 7551. If anyone has experience with this prop please enlighten me, how fast are you getting off the ground, and what performance on climbout?
2723D huh? You must be the guy who bought Marty's plane? He had the tie down next to me at Birchwood. Hope your having fun with your new bird. Anyway, about the 8043 prop. Get one, you won't reget it if your plans include gravel bars. I have been running an 8042 for 3 years and love it. You can get out of 600 feet strips (fairly light, not gross) Can't quote you RPM on takeoff offhand but expect to flight plan at about 100 mph (87 Kts).

I have a IA175DM8046 on a 53170B with 800 tires. It turns a touch over 2200 at 1000 MSL static. You will get about 2450 climbing at 85 mph and it will redline in level flight. At 2500 rpm I cruise at about 110mph. It is very important to have your factory prop, if you go that route, balanced and repitched. These larger props have terrible quality control out of the factory. There are several posts on Supercub.org about the problems with the 175 series props. Merrill Field Propeller in Anchorage did well by me. The end result is worth it. They run very smoothly and have tremendous pull. You will feel a slight shutter when you sit or taxi downwind. I got a new one at Dominion Props for about $2700 (907-349-5942).
I don't remember the RPM's and all but I always get off in 600 ft on the Palmer, Grass-n-rocks.
And we stepped off 367 ft one time when practicing empty.
Look at Timbre's website. Think you can find it through the Links on the home page. He's done a lot of experimenting.
I can see where in my Log Books the previous owners switched to the 80 prop. Then they had it pitched to both sides of 43 until finally settling on 8043. After some research I replaced with with same!

4517C eh? I've got 4518C, and with a 8043 prop. Great prop, I operate out of a 650' strip and couldn't do it without the prop.
