170B Sim

Marc Gebhart of 2V2 Sim Aircraft Company is designing a virtual 1954 Cessna 170B using N2865C as a model. Check it out here!

It's finished! Marc Gebhart made a 170B simulator for X-Plane using my 170 as a model. It's an exact copy of my airplane, with the exception of the flaps, trim and engine gauges on the lower part of the panel (due to the limits of the X-plane software). Check it out here

X-Plane seems to be the Sim software of choice for the hardcore flight simulator guys. They have a free demo you can download. http://www.x-plane.com/about.html

The only bummer is that I am not really into computer games that much, and in order to fly my airplane I am going to have to buy a new computer. The one I have is just too old and won't run the program :? .

Looks like Mark scrapped the project. What gives? I have X-Plane 8 and think it's great, but I've been flying a Cessna 140 for lack of a good 170 wheelplane.

I sent Marc an email asking if he is still selling the 170 sim. It was cheap (like 10 bucks?). If he is not selling them anymore I asked for his permission to give you a copy. I'll keep you posted.

It was interesting working with Marc on the Sim. When it was finished I got this email from him....
"Having never flown a tail-dragger I have a few questions. I’m finding it difficult to control the ground handling when the tail raises during take-off. Ground looped a couple times. I think it may be the power settings I use. Full throttle and Full Rich. The plane is very sensitive to rudder input. If you have some tips on this it would be great."
He had never flown a tailwheel simulator before. I had to talk him through a tailwheel checkout and then all was well. :D

Haha. If only *too much power* was the cause for 170 ground loops, how wonderful that would be.

I appreciate you following up on this, I am loving X-plane. It's so realistic in the flight envelope, but have found that without rudder pedals or a 2nd joystick dedicated to yaw, it's near impossible to control on the ground unless you can set the repeat frequency on the keyboard in your operating system.

About the model... if he has abandoned it, I will continue it if he wants to open source his code. If he built it for ver 7.xx, he may have sent it to the boneyard to avoiding updating it for 8.xx.
