Fiberglass wheel pants

Post by cfiatzph »

What type of wheelpants where the original wheel pants for the C-170B and the C-172A? I have 2 pairs of wheel pants that need a good glazing and painting in my garage. Are these usable? They look like wheelpants from a mid 70's 172. What would I need a 337? How much is a pair worth these days?

They were all metal. Value? Condition. Condition. Condition.

Can anybody tell what the current status of the fibreglass wheel pants is (are?)?

I have searched Aircraft Spruce and Wagaero to no avail, I tried this link:

http://www.lahtiaerospace.com/prod01.htm

But the site is no longer available.

Thanks

Give them a call. I've often found that their websites do not have everything that appears in the hard copy catalog. I'd be surprised if they didn't stock them anymore. My last year's copy of the A/C Spruce catalog has them in it as does Univair and (I think) Wag-Aero. All three have carried them in the past. Call A/C Spruce first. If that doesn't pan out, try Univair.

I've seen pristine original wheel pants seel for over $2k these days. Even if you take them off, don't get rid of them.

Rich,

I clicked on your link above, and it worked fine. You must have experienced a temporary problem of some kind. Contact Matt Lahti and ask him if his wheel pants are STC'd for the 170 yet. I asked him a year or two ago, and they weren't. His email is matt@lahtiaerospace.com.

Best Regards,

Wag Aero has the fiberglass wheel pants listed for the 120 / 140 / 170 series - sku # M-077-000 price $373.50

Just got off the phone w/Aircraft Spruce (ordering parts for my Hatz) and they do NOT sell reproduction wheel pants for the 170 (or any other aircraft). Their wheel pants are sold based on dimensions. Sorry for any confusion, but I thought I had seen them in their catalog... guess not.

Anyway, Wag-Aero has them. Univair may as well.

A TREMENDOUS THANKS TO A VERY GENEROUS STEVE JACOBSON WHO DONATED NOT ONLY THOSE TWO SETS OF NICE WHEEL PANTS BUT SOME OTHER ITEMS TO BE AUCTIONED OFF FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ASSOCIATION. IT WAS MY GOOD FORTUNE TO BE ABLE TO OUT BID OTHERS WHO WERE CASTING HUNGRY EYES ON THE POLISHED AND BLUE ONES. IT IS VERY RARE TO BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE ORIGINAL WHEEL PANTS IN AS GOOD CONDITION AS THAT SET. THANKS STEVE!

(I WILL HAVE TO BUY SMALLER TIRES TO INSTALL THEM FOR SHOWING OFF AT CONVENTION BUT WILL GO BACK TO MY 800s FOR MOST OF MY FLYING TRIPS. 8O )

THE AUCTION WAS A GREAT RESOURCE FOR THE CONVENTION AND THE MEMBERS WHO DONATED ITEMS, MADE SPECIAL THINGS AND WORKED TIRELESSLY TO MAKE THE EVENT A HUGE SUCESS, ARE TO BE APPLAUDED. THANKS TO YOU ALL!
OLE GAR SEZ - 4 Boats, 4 Planes, 4 houses. I've got to quit collecting!
