Hello,
Please let me introduce myself. My name is Donovan, I live in Brazil, and I am now the owner of a 51’ Cessna 170A serial 19765 tail PT-AGB. I have been checking this site since I started flying the aircraft back in 2004 and this place has been great source of information. I was very happy to see my aircraft in the pages of the FlyPast magazine from England, if you want to take a look check the link bellow. The article is about my friend that flies T-6, but my Cessna managed to sneak in. I know the tail is not very original, but now that I bought the aircraft I am going to put it back in the original condition. So maybe one day I will fly to a convention in the US or to Oshkosh and meet you all.
Best regards,
Donovan

Congrats on your new plane!
Looks like you have a 'KLIP-TIP' rudder! Must have been a 'low bridge" mod! I think it's STC- IFLU2LOE.
Doesn't look like a 172 tail from the picture. Your rudder looks rounded at the bottom, a 172 is flat.
Anyhow, best of luck!!!

WELCOME!, Donovan!! Glad you are with us!
That's a beautiful airplane, and I believe I've seen it elsewhere (that tail is distinctive and difficult to forget.)
One of the features about the 170 that I enjoy is the round tailfeathers, and I applaud your decision and encourage you to return it to original condition. Let me know if you need help finding parts!

Thanks. I didn’t think you would be so interested in the tail. The owner that modified the tail said he did that to have ‘more control’ because he wanted to tow bigger banners. Since I never meet the guy I can’t say much about this. Apparently he used the original elevator spar and made it square (very similar in shape to the 172), the rudder I don’t know how it was made or where came from. The stabilizers are original with some ‘area’ added to make it square. To get the stabilizers back to original it is going to be easy, but the rudder and elevator not so. I am trying to buy an used elevator and rudder, but to find a pair that is not damaged or without corrosion is not easy (in Brazil at least). Rebuild from what it is already there is an option, but more expensive.
Some people think the aircraft is a 180, but I like the round tail better…
