$1500-$2500 plus parts is a ball-park figure for a complete engine change, provided no additional repairs are required.

I once had an annual performed on my Baron and the estimate was $1800 for the annual only. I had authorized "a few other things" and when I picked up the airplane the Invoice was for $12,000! 8O

I sat down with a calculator and scrutinized the invoice and found they'd used a trainee (un-certificated) who was supervised by an A&P, yet they charged me A&P/IA labor rates. (They'd charged me $60/hr for a $12/hr workman.) I boiled it down to a $4800 invoice and told them to take it or we could hand it over to the lawyers. They took it.
