Instrument Panel refurbishment C170

Post by BirdDog »

Refurbishing the interior of my 1948 C170 and want to keep it basically original. Does anyone know if there is a replacement for the plexiglass panel or a shop that can refurbish to like new?
Thanks!

Yes. Joy Warren from the Cessna 120-140 Ass'n makes these and does an excellent job. I had her make one for me when I refurb'd the panel on my '52. She can produce the original, but can also accomodate custom lettering (if, say, you changed the function of a switch like I did) and can change the hole for controls like the mixture if you switched from the original to a vernier control.

Note, these panels need to be painted on the back side. What you receive from Joy is a clear panel with all the stripes & lettering on the back. It's up to you to paint the back (yes, you paint over the stripes & lettering on the back) to match your panel. You have to pull all the control cables out to change the panel, but it looks nice when it's done.

Joy is the newsletter editor for the 120-140 association. You can get her email from their contacts page (http://www.cessna120-140.org/Contact_Us.htm ) or you can PM or email me for her contact info. She has made these for several 170 ass'n members in the past.
