170A auxiliary fuel tanks

Post by dentistpilot »

Gentlemen,
Once in a while the four hour endurance of my 170A is a bit of a limitation.
I saw in the recent 170 News the checklist of STC-337's, which include:
#079 Fuel tank, aux, 12.5 gal. left wing (170)and;
#082 Fuel tank, Dual sys left wing, (170) and;
#083 Fuel tank Javelin Aux 18 gal. (170A-B).
I guess the first two do not apply to an A model, but the third does.
Are any of you familiar with it?
Still available?
Cost?
Installation requirements, difficulties?
Utility?
Balance problems?
All advice will be appreciated.

Have you not yet checked the Members Issues section, where one of our members has a 18 gal. Javelin tank for sale? (James)

I liked my Javlin very well (when I still had my airplane). It was a very easy system to manage and only took about six inches of floor height space inthe luggage area.

My suggetion is that you also look into the Extended Range Tank STC offered by Harry Delicker at Delair.
The Extended Range version adds 7.5 gals. per side for an additional total fo 15 gals. 52 total.

The system basically opens two row of holes in the outer end of your stock tanks,
one on the bottom for fuel to flow through, and one on the top for air.
Then they weld on an extesion to the outer end of your stock tank.
This extension tank is made in the same manner as the stock tank.

ALL flow controls remanin the same.
NO fuel inside behind the pilot.
Just need to make up a dip stick so you can know your exact amount of fuel.

I have the Long Range version, but they are more difficult to install.
But, I do have 67 gallons total.
