Fuel Tank Caps
I would have thought that this would have been an easy item to find at Spruce, etc. but I don't see the RED vented fuel caps listed that fit later model 170's (and 172 TD's). Where is the best, least expensive place to purchase these critters

Re: Fuel Tank Caps
Thanks George. I stand corrected (again
), after getting the part number from you I did another search and got a hit on Spruce. I didn't find the correct part number in the catalogue, but on line they do have them listed @ $31.50 each. Probably managed to save the cost of shipping by checking the internet. As a matter of curiosity, I looked at the 1956 C-170 parts book and noted that the part number and diagram of the fuel cap is not the vented type currently being used. Did Cessna decide the old style was not as good as the current ones?

Re: Fuel Tank Caps
The old style was not properly (relief) vented.

Re: Fuel Tank Caps
The original nonvented fuel caps had to be replaced with vented caps as per an AD in the late 70's. I believe the FAA then relented and later stated that only one cap had to be of the vented type, naturally, I had already bought two. At the time Cessna sold the caps at a very reasonable price which was the case with most Cessna parts at that time...too bad that is NOT the case today. All the parts manuals printed or reprinted from manuals originally printed prior to the late 1970's would then have the old part number (unvented) for the fuel caps. The AD should still be on the FAA website.
