I've never logged in to ask a question before - and am a relatively new member. My wife and I have enjoyed flying our 1953 Cessna 170B N4590C around Washington right up until dissmanteling the aircraft in Sept 2007 for annual. After many hours of work, the new paint is on and we are going back together.
I am an A&P, and have been using the 43.13-1B, 2A, Univair Parts Catalog UP108-12, and Univair Service Manual UD138-13 for reassembly procedures. These manuals have fallen short in some areas. I am looking for information on Prop Bolt Torque, Wing Bolt Torque (nut), Strut Bolt Torque (nut) and Control Surface Balancing.
The big question seems to be: Is there a 170B Service Manual Available????

I am not aware of a manual specific to the 170 other than the parts manual but there is a Cessna 100 Series Service Manual, now available from Univair. It does not specifically cover the 170 but the book's forward indicates that it can be used as a guide for the 120, 140, and the 170. Its got tons of useful information.
Not sure what the Univair 138-13 manual is but if you don't you should have the Cessna 100 series '62 and prior service manual. It is the closest thing there is to a service manual for the 170 and it will answer most of your questions. You can look to McCauley for the prop polt torque though it is in the service manual as well.

The Cessna Service Manual, 100 Series, 1962 and Prior is the only official service manual. It has an entire section on torque, which you'll also find duplicated in the MX Library of this forum. The control surface balancing info is available there also. (Or, you can email or PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.)

Manuals are all free for download. Keep in mind they may not be current
but they're a great place to start.
