Veteran's Day story

Post by GAHorn »

Bein' Veteran's Day, thought I'd share a story from an online buddy:

"That's my Dad on the far right; pic was taken in Reciefe Brazil, sometime in 1945.

The motorcycle was issued to an Army MP in Bayonne NJ. He made the mistake of parking it on the dock & leaving it unattended while the ship my Dad was on was loading cargo. A word to the boom operator & the motorcycle was in the forward hole. By the end of the day, it was painted Navy gray & had all the required Navy numbers.

It stayed on the ship until Dad got off in the fall of 1945. I asked him what happened to the bike. He said he left it parked in front of the base PX in Norfolk. I asked him why he didn't bring it home; he said that would be stealing!"

It's great to hear about interservice cooperation, ain't it?
