Politics up here, whenever a new party gets voted in they have a party ! Takes awhile before they ween themselves off......well you know. The latest from the TC web is that the ruling is on hold until it can be made into law. I'll call this week to the local office to see if there's a proposed date and post. Once law it will be required for flights in the north. I do not agree with the cost but I do recognize that with our Canadian limited search and rescue capabilities, its probably a good idea to tilt the odds in your favour of being found.

Transport Canada, has set a drop dead date of Feb.01/2011, as the date which 406 Elts are due in Canada.

It goes somewhat like this ;
1) Feb. 01/2009, 122.50 no longer monitored. 406 ELT recommneded.
2) After Feb.01/2010, 406 ELT installation required at next annual. Excemption, allowing AME,( AC mech ) to install ELT.
3) By Feb. 01/2009 406 ELT required

This agrees with what I've found on Avweb. Is this a final rule yet, or is it still in the proposal stage? Has it been published anywhere that people can find the actual text? (AOPA are saying they're still monitoring its progress, and they'll publish more information when the rule is finalized.)

Thanks,

John

Just to keep current as a smart-Azz.... I don't think they ever monitored 122.50. :wink:

After a few conversations with transport, they all say the same thing that the regulation is on hold. There's no monitoring of the 121.5 and a pleasant fellow in one of the transport departments actually commented that the spot was a good back-up and its only short coming was that the units can turned off.

Been thinking of calling for a saturday morning fly-in, at Gastons, with the Missouri bunch.
I'm in Arkansas the first 12 days of April, so do keep us informed.

My avionics fellow told me ACK will have a replacement out in next couple months to slip right in where mine is for about 5 -6 hundred. He said when it comes out, the others will be dropping their prices. I told him I have a Microfix to carry anyway for all purposes.
