Petit Jean This Year (MAYBE)

Post by N2868C »

I decided that it might be better to make this a new post, instead of hanging it onto ARDAVE's post.

I'm really happy for Dave and Traci. They have definitely gone the extra mile for these events at Petit Jean, however this wedding is probably one of the most important functions in their family life. For that: Congrats!!

Personally, I will miss the opportunity for this wonderful fly-in, 170 camaraderie, and camping event. Has anyone considered trying to get a small gathering of 170's at Petit Jean this year, even though our gracious hosts are totally committed to family affairs? I know that we couldn't pull off such a successful event, as they have in the past. But surely we could make a reasonable showing, in their honor, and continue this wonderful tradition.

Just a thought. The weekend that fits the mold of last year would be, Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. It would certainly take some camp site reservation commitments, in order to reserve the area; that is if it isn't too late already.

Any support of the thought, please post. Otherwise, my apologies for the intrusion. Also, if this idea has been brought up and I missed it, just let me know.

Then again, if we can't put it together this year, there is always next year.

I've been watching the weather and wondering how we ever got such nice weather for our spring fly-ins? Every year our school softball & baseball teams have to reschedule most of their games because of hit & miss weather. Seems to be that Fall, doesn't have front after front of rain storms. Am I thinking correctly? You can see where my thinking is going! George has always been correct, when he states how beautiful the Ozarks are in the the fall.

Hi Dave,

I'm with you. Spring is always iffy. I would love a fall fly-in at Petit Jean! Now, all we have to do is to pick a date and see how much interest we can muster. We're ready!!

I was thinking about mid October. Halloween can be a little iffy, but the couple of weeks proior to that are usually beautiful. How about Oct 15/16 for a starting point?

I'm embarrased to have to ask  , but what's going on here at Edwards in May? Their open house is usually in the fall.

Your missing Diluth June 21-27 on your list. What's up with that?

Never been to Oshkosh either and no plans to go at this point but you never know. Will be at Grimes(Golden Age Air Museum) both times more than likely.

Back on topic a fall Petit Jean would be fine except more than likely I'd have to spend time at home being jealious of those attending. :(

Bruce,
Unfortunately have to pass on the convention this year.
Will attend within the next couple of years.

Miles,
Edwards is site of so much aviation history and here is the kicker –
Museum open daily but it is inside base which is only open to public first and third Friday of the month. The day before Chino is the third Friday so I have signed up for a tour that day.
Also going to Riverside and Palm Springs museums while in the area. Maybe Van Nuys and take a ride along route 2 through the mountains if time permits.

OK George,
I am done hi-jacking this thread now.

Steve just plan on the convention in 2010. While I don't think the 2010 location has been announced it is not necessarily a secret. But I will wait till at least the President talks about it. Suffice it to say that if you would consider flying to Duluth you'll be able to fly to the 2010 location. (OK I really didn't give you a clue where 2010 is did I :) )

As far as hi-jacking a thread the secret is to always mention something along the lines of the subject. That way your really not hi-jacking a thread.

In keeping with that thought it would be really cool for Steve and I if Petit Jean could be scheduled for early in the week before Reklaw. That way Steve and I could fly half way across the country and kill two birds with one stove by attending Petit Jean say Tuesday through Friday then on Friday we could all travel down to Reklaw and invade that fly-in in mass.

Of course any schedule like that would almost insure my work schedule would not agree or a week long rain event. :(

Now I remember that we've discussed this ideal many times before. Convention, Reklaw, Lee Bottom, cabin fever, are all factors. I'm just mulling this over in my mind. I'd definitely have to seek council with Gar & Ole Pokey. My work schedule dictates that I'm home, Aug 19-31, Sept 16-28, Oct 14-26, this year. Tom, Oct 15/16th is thur/fri. We usually have it on weekends. I guess Reklaw is the 24/25th..
